Today, more then ever the focus of 'SMART' aspects of a city have gained momentum. This decade has seen heavy investments by many governments across various continents to turn chosen cities into fast hubs of socio-economical and business development. We are talking about Smart Cities. A utopian idea where life is integrated with the technologies to the optimum. Where cars park themselves and there are no rush hours, where the communication is secure and free, where there is safety in autonomy and where the energy is in harmony with nature. Our team set out to research the technologies and projects under the Dutch ITS research wing in order to facilitate the upcoming 'Smart Revolution' from the point of view of city planning and development.

The process of the research involved the study and revaluation of over 100 projects, in terms of reusability. Structured methods of evaluation were developed for bias management in evaluation results. Each project was assessed in terms of its maturity, scalability, asset reusability and client match. The projects were prioritised which scored high on the developed criterions and the less significant projects automatically obtained low scores.

Intensive interviews were conducted with personals from within the Dutch ITS team in order to gain deeper insight over the ground truth pertaining the history and status of a projects. The interviews proved crucial since the experience shared by the team members who were involved in the project is parallel to none. Through the interviews, we also gained access documentation of projects which helped us build a stronger hypothesis for the reusability of a certain project.

The effort took us a good six months of research and the results are compiled in this website for readers to obtain access to the conclusions we derived out of our work.
