Smart City
Smart City- theme description

Gone are the days of bulky metropolitans, cities that are burdened by their own gravity. Urbanization and globalization is on the growing trend. In only about 15 years, 60 % percent of the world population will be living in urban cities. As the cities grow and expand, it leads to traffic congestion, threatening safety, wasting commuter time & valuable fuel and therefore creating a negative impact on the work - life balance. Cities need to be mobility smart, more efficient, reliable and green. As more and more people come together it is important to create smart systems and their integrations not only to provide services that people need but also to do so efficiently with available resources and with minimum effect on the environment. What awaits the future is smart cities.
Smart city is urban strategy by using technology to improve the quality of life. It has a set of different projects which has various goals, content and technology intensity. Smart cities promote social and technological innovations and they link existing infrastructures. They incorporate new energy, traffic and transport concepts that go easy on the environment. Hence it has high benefits for improving the quality of life.
Smart city projects can be divided into 3 branches:
-
Digital city: Using the IoT and ICT to create a wide network of connected mobility and intelligent traffic systems
-
Green city: Energy transition from conventional sources of energy to electric and hybrid mobility vehicle, hence limited the greenhouse gas emissions. For green city is very important to develop infrastructure for electric mobility
-
Knowledge city: Big data and analysis to innovate different applications leading to smooth traffic flow by giving speed and lane change advices to the driver. The IoT applications using data can also be used to manage incidents in a proper way by clearing the roads for the emergency services
-
Connected City: The connectivity of a city within its bounds and with other cities is a key factor in deciding if a city can hold the stresses of a smart city
