Project Description
The technique is used to take advantage of four areas. These benefits are: 1. Better flow. Technology in traffic lights recognizes trucks with a "freilot system", which gives the lorry green light and a better flow. This technique can also be used by the Fire Brigade to be able to be on site more quickly. 2. Energy-efficient driving. The system in the lorry advises the driver about the speed and indicates when to shift up or down in order to drive energy efficiently. 3. Increase safety through speed restriction. Via a signal to the truck, the speed can be limited, so that the maximum speed cannot be exceeded. 4. With the system, a driver can reserve a parking space for loading and unloading from a distance, giving him a good parking space in a busy city. This saves valuable time. This has not been applied in Helmond. The results of the project are so promising that both the municipality and the users involved have decided to continue using the systems.
Inputs
Main INPUT of the system is:
-
By equipping the vehicles with certain limiters, Enhanced driving by the drivers, using data to find a parking space.
Outputs
Main OUTPUT of the system is:
-
Reduced emissions, increased safety and reduced fuel consumption
Project Assets
Adds comfort to highway users and saves time for truck drivers by providing various benefits.
Project Struggles
-
This device can be used only in heavy vehicles which might be a disadvantage.
-
The usage is limited to only certain cities.
Project Objectives
The main objective is to develop new automotive and traffic technologies that help in significant reductions in fuel and CO2 emissions in freight traffic in urban areas.

Project Status

It is implemented and is functional mainly in the city of Helmond and three other cities. These help in increasing the vehicle efficiency by 25%.
